Really? City now free of potholes, says MCD
While motorists continue to bear the brunt of potholed roads, civic agencies responsible for maintenance and upkeep of roads claim that potholes on major city roads had been repaired.
While motorists continue to bear the brunt of potholed roads, civic agencies responsible for maintenance and upkeep of roads claimed on Saturday potholes on major city roads had been repaired.
Coming under flak from all quarters, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was told to repair all major roads that were damaged by August 27. The deadline expired on Saturday.
The MCD claimed it had repaired 90 per cent of the 319 roads identified by it for immediate repair.
PWD officials said they had repaired potholes in the entire network of 415km roads that comes under its jurisdiction.
KS Mehra, municipal commissioner, said, “We have completed repair work in 90 per cent of the roads by Friday. The rest will also be completed in a day or two.”
MCD officials said at present they were carrying out patch repair work so they do not get further damaged. “We have just filled the potholes. But in a month’s time we will carry out dense carpeting of the roads,” said a MCD official.
Delhi’s Public Works Department’s engineer-in-chief N.M.D. Jain said they had repaired the potholes in the entire network of 415km PWD roads in Delhi.
“We have filled up all the potholes. We have also started the patchwork and repairing the broken stretches. We hope to complete the repair work and resurfacing of broken segments of roads in one month or so,” said Jain.
After being pulled up by the government for the bad condition of roads, the MCD had constituted a special monitoring committee to ensure time-bound repair of roads.
