Planning to buy a new car? It may cost you more. With the number of vehicles on Delhi’s roads growing at nine pc (1,000 new ones every day), the transport department is considering hiking registration fee on private cars. This, they feel, would check traffic.

Department sources said they would also explore if registration tax on luxury cars could be increased substantially.
“We are studying car tax structures in neighbouring states. We will analyse them and see if it makes sense changing ours,” principal secretary, transport, R.K. Verma said.
