South district police on Wednesday arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly raping and murdering a five-year-old Naga girl in Mahipalpur area of south Delhi last week.
In 2004, when Manoj Kumar Thapa was 16, he had allegedly raped a 11-year-old-girl in south Delhi’s RK Puram. He was recently released after spending three years in jail for the 2004 incident. The man, who is jobless, has two more criminal cases against him.
Thapa was arrested from Sardar Patel railway station in Chanakyapuri. Police said he allegedly raped the girl when she went to the terrace of her Mahipalpur house to dry clothes as her grandmother was unwell.
After allegedly raping her, he killed her and threw her body in an empty water tank on the terrace of a neighbouring building.
Thapa lived with his family in the building adjacent to where the girl lived. Earlier, he had tried to lure the victim as well.
In 2003, when Thapa was 15, he had allegedly slashed the neck of a boy when a fight broke between them in RK Puram area. A case of attempt to murder was registered and he was sent to a juvenile home. The same year he was arrested for a house theft in RK Puram.
“We arrested the accused from the Chanakyapuri area on Wednesday evening,” said HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (south).
