The city’s resident welfare associations (RWAs) fear an upswing in illegal construction following the disbanding of the court-appointed commissioners.
“The need for an alternative mechanism to keep a check on illegal construction came up because the MCD failed to deliver. After moving forward in a positive direction (setting up the committee), the situation is now back to square one,” said Rajiv Kakaria of Greater Kailash-I RWA.
“Now the MCD will again act selectively. Considering it is an election year, there will be an upsurge in unauthorised construction,” said VK Arora, convener of United RWA Joint Action.
“The MCD had issued many fake affidavits (on illegal construction) in the court. How can it be trusted with the same task again,’ asked VN Bali, secretary of Ram Vihar RWA.
