Senior BJP leader and former external affairs minister Jaswant Singh has advocated the revision of the "no first use" nuclear doctrine enunciated by his own NDA government.

"The global scenario has changed and security concerns are multi-dimensional. Policies of the 20th century will not work. There is a need to revise the nuclear policy with a sense of urgency," Singh said in the Lok Sabha.

Initiating the debate on the demands for grants to the external affairs ministry, Singh asked the UPA government to hold "broader consultations" for revising the nuclear policy, while taking the Opposition into confidence in the matter.

Emphasising his case, Singh said: "Time will not wait for us".

As regards policy towards Pakistan, Singh asked the government, "not to bank on the US" to resolve issues with the neighbour.
