The vagabonds, strays and simians who have made the Ridge area on Sardar Patel Marg their humble abode, are going to have sleepless nights when the US President Barack Obama arrives in the Capital on November 7.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has been asked to put up high-powered lights in the forest area to avoid any untoward incident during the night.

Sources said the move is part of a security measure undertaken by the NDMC ahead of Obama’s visit as he will be staying at the ITC Maurya hotel on Sardar Patel Marg.

The NDMC official said it will use 15 poles with floodlights on them, facing the Ridge area. The lighting on Sardar Patel Marg will be done on a stretch of 500 metres as it is the only road leading up to the hotel. The NDMC workers will start the work in a few days time.

The rest of the stretches near Sardar Patel Marg have already undergone streetscaping work for the Commonwealth Games and are well lit.

“Mother Teresa Crescent and Mandir Marg, adjacent to Sardar Patel Marg, have two set of lights,” a NDMC official said.
