Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday attributed "rise in people's income" as one of the key reasons behind price rise and appealed to citizens to be "aware and cautious" of not falling prey at the hands of hoarders.
"Price rise is a major problem for both the state and the Centre but there are reasons behind this, there has been a rise in people's income all across India. When such a thing happens, the manufacturers and businessmen are naturally encouraged to hike prices of goods and commodities," Dikshit said.
"Also when there is progress and development along with rise in income, then the problem of a little rise in prices will have to be borne," she said.
The chief minister was speaking at the felicitation ceremony of Congress MLA from Trinagar constituency Anil Bhardwaj who was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary.
She noted that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said in clear terms that prices will come down in the coming one or two months, "so please be a little patient, steps are being taken".
"Please be aware and cautious with hoarders, if anyone is selling products with increased prices then make a complaint against the individual, there are telephone numbers given for this. Call me if the number cannot be reached," the chief minister said.
