Even as fog continues to disrupt rail operations, the Railways have started a webpage for fog-affected trains. Passengers can log onto events.trainenquiry.com/fog for real-time status of affected trains and save several precious hours.
The mini site categorises information under several heads including fog reporting on routes in the last 24 hours, currently running fog affected trains, cancellations, rescheduling diversions.
The National Train Enquiry System (NTES) provides information on trains. The Centre for Rail Information Systems (CRIS) and RailYatri.in have rolled out a dedicated page via NTES for fog related delays.
Scores of trains continued to be delayed, rescheduled and cancelled because of fog for the second consecutive day on Monday.
RailYatri officials say passengers travelling via Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi and Punjab can face delays up to even 24 hours this winter.
"With this initiative, we not only bring train information but also route/station status," said Sunil Bajpai, group general manager, CRIS.
CRIS cites it as the first step towards bringing fog related information to its 60 to 70 lakh passengers every day.
"This is a pilot project and based on the success we can also experiment to see how other weather issues can be communicated," said Bajpai.
Apart from phone and SMS from telephone No. 139 , the Northern Railway has also strengthened train enquiry system during foggy weather through additional manual telephone enquiry service - 011-23747110.
Also, an additional telephone No. has been started for SMS-based train enquiry system for New Delhi, Delhi Jn, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal and Delhi Sarai Rohilla stations.
Passengers can SMS the 5 digit train no to 9717631813. Details will be texted back.
