The father of alleged gangster Sonu alias Kuldeep Singh, arrested after the Green Park Extension encounter, has approached the Delhi High Court seeking transfer of the investigation into the case to an independent agency. He has termed the encounter a “frame-up”.
“The story of the police is clearly improbable. There seems to be no justification on part of the police not to arrest them at South Extension but wait till they reach Green Park. The grievous injury inflicted upon my son in the circumstances makes the whole story suspicious and open to grave doubt,” stated the petition filed by Kuldip’s father Jaswant Singh.
The family has also sought the court’s permission to meet their son in hospital. Filing a writ petition, Kuldeep’s father Yashwant Singh accused the police of not letting the family meet Sonu.
Issuing a notice to Delhi police, Justice G.S. Sistani asked the police to file their response by February 9. Delhi Police counsel Rajat Katyal submitted that the police had not prevented Kuldeep’s family members from meet him in AIIMS.
Calling his son’s implication false, Singh said, “I don’t expect a fair investigation if the police conducts the probe.” Therefore, the case may be transferred to an independent agency, he pleaded.
Kuldeep Singh was arrested after an encounter in south Delhi on Monday. He allegedly provided “vital information” to the gang.
