Two employees of a copper wire manufacturer were robbed of Rs 10 lakh in Jhilmil Colony area in Northeast Delhi on Saturday.
Police said the incident occurred on Saturday evening when the two people were on their way to Seema Puri, GT Road, from Dilshad Garden area. “Bal Mukund and Dharmender were going to deliver cash which was kept inside the boot of their scooter. When they were near Jhilmil Colony, two unidentified assailants came and asked them to stop. The men were carrying guns and threatened them to hand over the money,” said a senior police officer.
The police said the two assailants fled with the scooter of the victims, leaving behind their motorcycle.
“The two men told the assailants that the money was in the boot of their vehicle. The accused then left their motorcycle behind and escaped with the scooter. Later, the police found the scooter near a metro station but the money was missing,” said a police officer.
The owner of the company, Arun Jain, told the police that the two men were his trusted employees. However, the police are still questioning the two as they suspect their involvement.
“Prima facie, it appears that the assailants might have a clue that the duo was carrying money. We are probing the matter from all possible angles,” a police officer said.
Police said though passers-by saw what was happening, they did not intervene as both assailants were reportedly armed.
