In a meticulously planned crime, four young men robbed a Gurgaon bank of Rs 1.48 crore on Wednesday afternoon. Armed with revolvers, the robbers took five bank employees and two customers of the Oriental Bank of Commerce hostage and decamped with the money in 15 minutes flat. “There were no CCTV cameras in the Sector 55 branch as it had to shift to another building in Sector 56 market on July 15,” a bank official said.
Gurgaon police commissioner Mohinder Lal said the robbers reached the bank in a WagonR (UP 14–4624) at 12.11 pm on Wednesday. “Four of them entered the bank posing as customers.” Bank officials said the robbers were speaking in a distinct Uttar Pradesh dialect.
The robbers were first intercepted by a guard outside the bank. “One of them showed him a deposit slip of Rs. 5,000. When the guard said the account number did not belong to this branch, one of the robbers kicked him in the abdomen, snatched his rifle and dragged him inside,” police said.
