Armed assailants posing as courier company boys entered the house of a businessman and tried to rob the family in Malviya Nagar area of south Delhi on Tuesday afternoon.
A 12-year-old girl showed her presence of mind and turned them away when they rang the doorbell of the house. The girl told them that her father was not home so she would not open the door.
Her father who was not at home at that time, returned in the meantime, and met the robbers on the staircase.
“The robbers told him that he had a packet in his name and were carrying a gift box. One of them then took out a knife and held it against the abdomen of the victim identified as Bharat Bhushan. The victim shouted for help, and soon the neighbours gathered at the scene. A policeman patrolling in the area rushed to the house and nabbed one of the three men,” said HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (south).
Bharat is a clearing and forwarding agent with the Customs Department at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). The other two managed to flee from the area. The incident occurred around 2.45 pm at House no 90/2 in Malviya Nagar area. Police said that the accused had come on a motorcycle.
“The motorcycle bore a registration number of Gujarat. We have arrested one of them and are on the trail of the other two men who fled on the motorcycle,” said a senior police officer.
Police said that they have registered a case of attempt to robbery at the Malviya Nagar police station and a hunt was on for the rest of the two men. “We have identified them and dispatched several teams to nab the other two men,” said the officer.
