The deepening water crisis at several sectors in Rohini phase III has left the residents high and dry. The crisis has prompted volunteers of India Against Corruption (IAC) to take up the fight with the authorities.
Residents complain that despite paying hefty monthly water bills, they do not get adequate water supply for days and are thus forced to buy water from private tankers. “Our water bills every month are moderate, but there is no water supply. Our taps run dry for weeks, forcing us to buy water from tankers,” said Nandan Phartiyal, a Rohini Sector 20 resident.
He also pointed out that as against their planned colony getting proper water supply only once in a week, the neighbouring unauthorised colonies get 24x7 water supply.
“There is no system. The unauthorised colonies’ residents don’t pay any water charges but still get non-stop water supply. And we pay water bills, despite that we need to spend thousands of rupees every month for tankers,” Phartiyal added.
Phartiyal is not the only one complaining from the Rohini phase III area as residents across Sectors 23, 24 and 25 have been facing similar problems for years. Taking up the issue of water supply, bad road condition and ill maintained parks, the volunteers of IAC and RWA representatives on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to GS Patnaik, vice-chairperson, Delhi Development Authority (DDA).
Years after the colonies were developed and people have been living there, the DDA has not yet transferred roads to the MCD and water supply to the Delhi Jal Board. “Patnaik said he will conduct a departmental inquiry into the water supply issue,” said Rajesh Sharma, IAC volunteer.
When contacted, DDA spokesperson said, “I will have to check what the situation is.”
