While other DU colleges are looking to erect bamboo classrooms, St Stephen's too has plans for an infrastructural upgrade.

The new academic year at St Stephen's College will be one with better infrastructure facilities as the institution has undertaken renovation work to the tune of Rs 35 lakh.

And well-known architect Gurmeet Rai, who was recently in charge of charting a conservation plan for the Red Fort, has been entrusted with the responsibility of the work.

"Our structure is very old and over the years a lot of ceiling leakages has developed," said Valson Thampu, Principal St Stephen's College.

“We are just trying to fix that. Work is being done on over 50,000 square feet of roof area.”

The Science Block, Mukherjee East block and a few faculty residences are currently among the structures being worked on. the college has constituted an Infrastructure Development Committee specially to supervise the project.

However, the college has bigger plans once this is taken care of.

"The intention is to construct four new classrooms and four tutorial rooms. The plans are ready and we have already submitted them to the University Grants Commission for fund support.
