They thought it would contain some explosive material, but customer care assistants at a metro station were surprised when they found bundles of cash inside an unclaimed tiffin box.
A tiffin box, which was unclaimed inside a metro train on the Central Secretariat to Jahangirpuri line, was noticed by a train operator who checked the entire train before taking it to the depot on Tuesday.
He handed over the tiffin box to Customer Care Assistants at the GTB Nagar metro station. They opened the tiffin box and much to their surprise found Rs 1.64 lakh inside it.
"The driver noticed it around 9 pm yesterday and he handed over the tiffin box at the GTB Nagar metro station. It was then opened and the cash was found inside," a metro official said.
The person who left the tiffin box inside the train approached the station authorities and explained how he lost it. The money was then handed over to the person, whose name has not been made public.
"The assistants at GTB Nagar were alerted after a person approached the metro station. He was then asked to go to GTB Nagar. After preliminary inquiry, the money was handed over to him," the official said.
