The Delhi high court on Thursday fined a man for uploading objectionable photographs and telephone number of his former girlfriend on a social networking website.

Justice Ajit Bharihoke imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 while quashing a criminal case registered against the man under the Information Technology Act.

The court quashed the first information report (FIR) against the man, as the police told the court that both the man and the woman had settled the matter for the sake of peaceful family life.

According to the FIR, lodged with the Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police, the woman, who got married and is now based in Mumbai, had alleged that her profile, along with her mobile number, has been made public on a social networking site. She also said that she had been getting mischievous calls and SMS.
