Police have finally managed to trace the pilot vehicle of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan.
The Mahindra Bolero SUV was found abandoned behind Radisson Hotel in Rangpura village of Mahipalpur in southwest Delhi early on Tuesday.
An unidentified man stole the SUV, which has a radio tag allowing easy access to Parliament and some other government stickers, from the RK Puram residence of driver Niranjan Mohanty early on Monday.
The police said two of the tyres of the vehicle were found to be flat. The crime team has collected fingerprints from the vehicle.
“We think that the vehicle thief might have abandoned the vehicle fearing arrest as police was on the trail,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
The police said the thief might have been spooked by his associates who might have warned him of the consequences of stealing a hi-profile vehicle.
