Ruchi Bhuttani, who allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday in her DLF City house, had on June 28 too tried to end her life, two days before her birthday, by taking sleeping pills. She had attempted suicide after a fight with her husband Sumit over his relations with model Meera Chopra, cousin of a Bollywood actor.

Ruchi’s relatives also revealed that Meera had picked up a fight with the deceased before their marriage and the matter reached the Sarojini Nagar police station, though no formal complaint was filed.

Meera Chopra could not be contacted for comments despite several attempts.

“She had taken dozens of sleeping pills after she had a tiff with Sumit on June 28, two days before her birthday. Instead of taking her to a hospital, her husband got her treated at home to avoid police action,” said Rakesh Behal, uncle of the deceased.

Sumit had allegedly told Ruchi on her birthday on June 30 that he wanted divorce. She probably took the extreme step after she received cold response from her maternal side.

According to sources, Ruchi had called up her mother and brother pleaded them to take her home about an hour before hanging, but she did not received any affirmative response.

At about 3 am, she was rushed to Uma Sanjeevani hospital in DLF Phase 2 and was further referred to Max Hospital in Sushant Lok. Dr AP Singh of Uma Sanjeevani hospital said that the relatives moved her immediately as they did not want to get her treated here.

According to the victim’s family, Sumit met Meera in Mumbai in 2000 when he was struggling to make a career in modeling.

According to police sources, Meera had slapped Ruchi before her marriage when the duo picked up a quarrel in their office in Bhikaji Cama Palace in Delhi for allegedly spoiling her relation with Sumit.

The city police have taken Sumit Bhuttan to one day custody.

Ruchi’s family submitted a diary, which was written in 2007 in which she has narrated the torture meted out to her by Sumit.

“We are investigating all the facts. We will verify every detail before taking any action,” commissioner of police SS Deswal said, after personally investigating the matter at DLF Phase 2 police station.

Meanwhile, police said that two teams have been constituted to look into the matter and alleged links to Meera.

Gurgaon: The police have recovered a diary of Ruchi Bhuttan, who was found dead in her house in DLF-II here on Tuesday morning.

In the diary, Ruchi used to write her stressed relations with her husband, claimed her

sister. Ruchi had started the diary with a word ‘continued’, which means that she had written diaries earlier also.

Ruchi’s family claimed she had sent her diary to her aunty some years back. On Tuesday, the family brought it to provide more evidence against the accused.

A copy of the diary is in the possession of HT. In her diary’s page number two and three, Ruchi has written about Meera Chopra. She has accused Meera of spoiling her marriage life.

According to Ruchi’s sister Shefali Gupta, Ruchi has written in the diary that Meera is the main reason behind her troubled marriage life.

“Ruchi has also mentioned about the abusive language which her husband used to describe and compare her with Meera. We have submitted the diary to the police,” said Shefali.

The police have taken the diary in their possession and will now verify the handwriting.
