With allegations being leveled about the fairness of the draw of lots to the 5238 flats under the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Housing Scheme 2008, the agency said it would verify documents of the successful allottees before handing them possession letters of the flats. DDA had conducted the draw on December 16.
Maintaining there has been no irregularity on its part, DDA spokesperson Neemo Dhar said, “We always verify the documents submitted by the applicants before handing them the allotment letter. If any discrepancy is found we will cancel the allotment and forfeit the registration money.”
Meanwhile Udit Raj, chairman, All India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations demanded an immediate inquiry to unearth the scam. “A cartel of builders have shown forged SC/ST documents and grabbed flats. We have proof to show forgery has been committed,” he said.
Raj said in October 2008, before DDA conducted the lottery, his organisation had written to several poeple belonging to ST category and living in Jhunjhunu to find out if the applications submitted in their names were genuine. “We found most people on whose names applications were submitted in DDA did not know about it. One person said he had given photocopies of his passport and ration card to someonefrom Delhi who promised to give him a flat. This shows some hanky panky was going on from the very beginning,” he said.
Delhi Police, meanwhile, are yet to register a case in the matter. “If we find irregularities in the allotment, we will register a case,” said S.B.K Singh, additional commissioner of police, Economic Offences Wing (EOW). The EOW received an anonymous complaint on December 16 that some builders had forged documents giving ST certificate to avail loans from banks for buying flats under the reserved category in the DDA’s 2008 draw.
