Parents of twin children can now breathe easy as some schools in the city are giving extra points to them for nursery admissions this year. Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, is one such school that has decided to give five points to children who are twins.
Twins will also be favoured when it comes to sibling points. While no sibling points will be awarded to the third child, 25 points will be awarded if an elder sibling of the twins is studying in the school. Other points the schools is giving are for neighbourhood, single parent, first-born child, girl child and transfer cases.Delhi Public School, Dwarka, also came out with its admission points system on Wednesday. The school is giving points for neighbourhood (25), sibling (30), girl child/first-born (5), single parent (5), transfer case (10) and alumni (20). In case of many applicants getting the same score, the school will adopt a lottery system to allot seats.
Most schools that have come out with their points systems have the option to let parents apply online. Out of all the seats available in schools, 25% have to be reserved for students from the EWS category. Any type of screening of parents, including asking for information about profession, is strictly prohibited under the Delhi government nursery admission guidelines.
This year many schools are also giving points for cultural integration and diversity. Children from inter-caste and inter-religion marriages are therefore likely to get extra points.
Apeejay School, Saket, that also came out with their points system is giving points to children under the category of Representative Affirmative Action. The school website states that this category has been made to ensure that the class is diverse.
