A 40-year-old teacher of a government-run school has been arrested for allegedly raping his former student and blackmailing her after making a video clip of the act.
Ram Avtar was a Hindi teacher in a government run school in south Delhi's Ambedkar Nagar.
Besides blackmailing the 27-year-old woman with the video clip, the accused was harassing her sexually by promising her that he will help her to get a job as a teacher in a reputed school, police said. Reportedly, the woman has completed her B.Ed from Delhi University (DU).
The police arrested Avtar following investigation into a complaint lodged by the woman, who claimed she knew him for more than 15 years, police said.
A senior police officer said the matter came to fore on December 23 when the woman along with her parents approached them with a complaint against Avtar. She was then sent to a government
hospital for medical examination to confirm the accusation.
"The medical report confirmed rape and a case under appropriate sections of IPC was registered against Avtar, who was later arrested," said the senior officer.
The woman, who stays with her family in Ambedkar Nagar locality, used to take tuitions from the accused during her school days.
In her complaint, the officer said, she has told the police that she knew Avtar when she was studying in class 7 in Madangir area.
"After she finished her schooling, Avtar remained in touch with her and helped her get admission in a Delhi University college. Around four years ago, Avtar took her to Rajasthan where they stayed in a hotel. In the same hotel, Avtar raped her and filmed the act. From there on he had
been harassing her sexually by threatening that he will circulate the video clip if she discontinued her 'relationship' with him," the officer said, adding they have sent a team to Rajasthan to collect evidence in the case from the hotel they had stayed.
