A 25-year-old cable operator’s battered body was discovered outside a Delhi Development Authority (DDA) market in southwest Delhi on Monday, with the police suspecting it to be the result of a drunken brawl gone terribly wrong.

“The battered body was discovered lying outside the entrance to a series of shops on the third floor of the Dwarka Sector-6 DDA market around 6 am today,” said a police officer on requesting anonymity.

Police have identified the victim as Akash Kumar, a cable service provider by profession.

“It appears that Akash and one of his associates were drinking with three other rival cable service providers from the area before the incident took place. They entered into an argument, which soon turned into a violent scuffle, during which Akash and his associate were assaulted by their companions,” the officer said.

“The injuries reveal that Akash after being repeatedly hit on the head with a stone or a bottle,” the officer added.

After initial investigations concluded, police detained three persons in connection with the incident hours after Kumar’s decaying body was recovered from the DDA market.

“We have detained three acquaintances of the deceased and are questioning them. A case has been registered and further investigations are underway,” said R.S Krishnia, additional CP (southwest).
