In Delhi, even police campuses are not safe from prowling thieves and burglars.

A break-in was reported at the general store of the police training school in south west Delhi’s Jharoda Kalan on Sunday night. This is the second burglary in the store in the past five months.

Sources said the burglary was discovered on Monday morning, when the store in-charge noticed the lock broken at the main gate. Among the many items

missing from the store were 18 bundles of copper wires, three stabilisers and a sack containing hundreds of Surf Excel detergent sachets. The theft happened in one of the rooms of the general store.

Sources said the cash box had been tampered with but the store in-charge had not kept any money in it.

This is the second break-in reported at the store. There are many rooms stocked with different items of everyday use. This room stocked mostly hardware and household items.

Around five months ago, similar to Sunday’s burglary, the main lock was broken and around 55 table fans were reported missing. However, no FIR was filed then.

The general store is within the police training school campus, where hundreds of officers undergo training before joining the force.

It is less than 100 metres from the main gate where there are at least four armed police officers round-the-clock.

Following the burglary, the principal is learnt to have deployed security outside the store at night.

HT tried to contact the principal for a comment but his phone was switched off.

Special commissioner of police (Training) Kishen Kumar said the school officials and the public works department had lodged a case of theft at the Baba Haridas Nagar police station. Police sources said they were yet to identify the burglars.
