With Diwali round the corner and markets packed to the hilt with shoppers, the security apparatus has been strengthened to avoid any untoward incident in the city.

In the backdrop of the 2005 bomb blasts, when terrorists had targeted two important markets on Dhanteras, the Delhi Police has made elaborate security arrangements to make Diwali a terror-free celebration this year.

Following the recovery of a huge cache of explosives from a car in Ambala, which was meant to be brought to Delhi, the city has been put on a high alert.

While security has been beefed up at all major markets, thorough frisking of people is being conducted.

Rajan Bhagat, Delhi Police spokesperson said, "We have increased

deployment of police personnel in markets across the city. Quick reaction teams and commandos have been positioned to thwart away any untoward incident."

"The movement of people pouring in the markets is being strictly monitored through CCTV cameras installed on the premises."
