A late night joyride turned into a nightmare for three students, when they were detained by the Delhi Police and questioned by Intelligence Bureau staff for breaching the security at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Police said the students, who were allegedly drunk, removed the barricade outside the gate number 35 and entered the high-security zone on their bike.
Police personnel standing at a nearby picket saw them and flashed a wireless message. The message of security breach at Rashtrapati Bhawan sent the cops into a tizzy. After a brief chase, the PCR personnel managed to nab them.
Sources said the students had travelled almost a kilometre inside the Rashtrapati Bhawan before they were caught. "Kumar Abhishek, 20, an engineering student, Vishal Rana, 21, a final year CA student and Janak Bhatt, 22, a CA student, trespassed into Rashtrapati Bhawan from the North Avenue side at 3.30 am. They were under the influence of alcohol," a senior police officer said.
Sources said the three men came on a Pulsar bike at 3.30 am on Sunday and removed the barricade before entering the Rashtrapati Bhawan campus from gate number 35.
"They claimed that they forgot the route and entered Rashtrapati Bhawan by mistake. They were prosecuted for traffic violation and driving under the influence of alcohol. They are residents of east Delhi and will be produced in the court on Monday,” he said.

In a separate incident, over 100 members of the Hindu Sena were detained on Sunday afternoon when they were trying to enter PM’s residence at 7, Race Course Road.
