Security measures stepped up in Capital for Diwali

Delhi Police have stepped up security in Delhi to thwart any untoward incident during Diwali.

Delhi Police have stepped up security in Delhi to thwart any untoward incident during Diwali.

In a meeting, security arrangements were reviewed by the top brass. Counterparts in neighbouring states were also informed to take adequate measures on their part, a police official said.

Heightened security was seen in and around popular markets such as Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, Sarojini Nagar, Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazar.

Staff at shopping malls, restaurants, pubs, multiplexes and other installations that attract huge gatherings have been asked to be extra vigilante, said the official.

The police were also keeping an eye on potential security threats at five-star hotels in the city and adequate measures have been taken, the official said.

The crime branch and special cell had been instructed to further strengthen their intelligence systems and keep a tab on movement of suspected individuals. Local police has been instructed to keep a tight vigil and ensure that every anti-terrorism measures are in place.
