The selection of a new Director General (DG) of Doordarshan (DD) has been set aside by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) which found fault with the selection and interview procedure adopted by the government.
"Selection held by the board for the post of the Director General (Doordarshan) and the consequent interview held on December 5, 2008 are set aside," a CAT bench comprising members Shanker Raju and Veena Chhotray said.
The order came on the petition of Ashok Jailkhani, a deputy director general in the public broadcaster who was not considered for the post of DG.
"The Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Prasar Bharati and DD are directed to hold the selection afresh after adhering to directions of the Delhi High Court and other candidates, who are eligible, shall also be considered. Jailkhani on deemed eligibility and seniority shall also be considered for the post of the DG," the bench said.
Jailkhani has approached the CAT for setting aside the selection process, held on December 5, 2008 for the post of Director General (DG) of the DD.
A total 19 persons were called for the selection, out of which 14 turned up...But Jailkhani was ignored, the plea said.
However, the CAT, which allowed the plea, asked DG Aruna Sharma, who is on deputation, to continue on the post till the fresh selection process is over.
