The agitation over the implementation of the semester system seems to be losing steam. On Friday, the post graduate committee of courses passed the semesterised syllabus for English (honours).
"The committee has approved the entire structure of the course for six semesters while the courses have been approved only for the first two semesters. The rest has been done provisionally," said Sumanyu Satpathy, head of the English Department.
Many teachers from the English department had been fighting the semester system vociferously.
According to English teachers, the syllabus was quite difficult compared to the earlier papers. "The students will study Shakespeare's Othello and As You Like It in the second semester itself, which is going to be very tough," said Sanam Khanna, who teaches English in Kamla Nehru College.
The Academic Council had, last month, given the V-C the power to bifurcate all courses if the departments failed to approve the semester syllabus.
