A 66-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her house in Paharganj in Central Delhi on Friday morning. Family members of the victim suspect robbery was the motive but the police said an insider could be involved.
The deceased was found dead in her bedroom with her throat slit with a piece of glass. The incident was reported from Tel Mandi area in Paharganj where the deceased lived with her two sons and their family.
The police said Munni Devi’s elder son Ashok found her in a pool of blood in her bedroom on the first floor of the house.
Ashok, who runs an electronic shop on the ground floor of their three-storey building, had returned after a morning walk when he found her mother lying dead.
“The woman lived on the first floor of the building while Ashok lives on the second floor. Her younger son Indrajeet lives on the third floor with his family. Ashok found his mother lying unconscious and immediately raised an alarm. She was taken to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared her dead on arrival,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Jaspal Singh said a case has been registered and they are looking into the matter.
When asked if robbery could be the motive behind the murder, the DCP said, “We don’t think that anyone would murder her just to get her nose ring. The entry into the house was friendly and it looks that the murderer was known to the deceased.”
