The contentious setusamudram project again figured in the Lok Sabha on Friday, resulting in a clash between the BJP and the DMK members. They forced the Speaker to adjourn the House for an hour before lunch.
BJP's deputy leader in the House VK Malhotra sought to raise the issue during Zero Hour. As soon as he mentioned the project, the DMK MPs were quickly on their feet and opposed his move on the plea that the matter was sub-judice. The saffron party has been alleging that the government was attempting to destroy evidence related to ancient 'Ram Setu' bridge to construct the Sethusamudram channel to link India with Sri Lanka.
Speaker Somnath Chatterje over-turned the objection of DMK members. He allowed Malhotra to raise the issue while observing that the matter was not sub-judice.
