The east Delhi police have arrested six more persons in connection with the sensational Shakarpur robbery case in which five persons had allegedly looted over Rs 3 crore from two employees of a builder.
The arrested persons have been identified as Harpreet, Arun Verma, Bijender, Dilshad, Laxman and Sukhdev Singh. Police have also recovered around Rs 1 crore from them.
According to police, it was Verma, a former driver of the builder, who had shared information about the transportation of cash to his accomplices. Earlier, four persons were arrested in the case and their interrogation had revealed the involvement of eight other persons in the robbery. All the arrested accused worked as drivers and two persons are still absconding in the case.
The victims, Rajesh Kumar Goyal and his brother Ravi Kumar Goyal, were transporting the cash in their WagonR car. Interestingly, initially the victims had reported a robbery of only Rs 15 lakh and that a bag containing Rs 25 lakh was left in the car by the assailants. However, the builder later told police that over Rs 3 crore was looted.
Prabhakar, deputy commissioner of police (east) said the entire conspiracy was hatched by Gurdev, arrested earlier in the case. He involved his brothers Sukhdev and Jaspreet and other accused in the conspiracy.
"Verma shared vital details with his accomplices to track the movement on the victims in the morning of June 20. When the accused noted that a huge amount of cash was being loaded into the car, they intercepted them and looted the cash," said the DCP.
