Sapna Rani Bhel is very eloquent when she talks about people’ problems and the solutions that she has to offer.

She said shortage of water in her constituency and lack of security for women prompted her to contest. “It’s a pity that people of Delhi face such a basic problem. Those I met during my door-to-door campaign said they were fed up with political parties and most of them do not want to vote. They promise to support me when I tell them that I am contesting as an Independent,” said Bhel, who is contesting for the New Delhi seat.

Bhel said she was also inspired by Anil Kapoor-starrer Nayak film. “The film showed there was so much that a leader can do if he or she has the will power.”

Bhel, who moved to Delhi from Saharanpur in UP eight years ago, said she always took up problems of the people with the authorities even as an ordinary citizen. “So, I thought why not try and get elected as an MP to solve people’s problems,” she said.

Bhel said her priorities included getting a women’s police station every two kilometresin her constituency.
