Shivaji College in west Delhi will celebrate its golden jubilee this year with a series of seminars, conferences and cultural events organised by various departments throughout the year.
The highlight of the celebrations will be an international Conference on Science, Spirituality and Humanity to be held from February 17 to 19.
The conference has been organised in collaboration with the Department of Philosophy, University of Delhi, and the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) and the Union home ministry.
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit, D Purandeswari, minister of state for human resource development (Higher Education), Rajya Sabha MP and ICCR president Karan Singh, and vice chancellor Dinesh Singh will be present at the seminar, which would also be attended by over 20 international and 180 national delegates as well as 12 vice-chancellors of universities across the country. The conference aims at providing a forum to discuss how technology has enabled access to information, better health and prosperity but has also created prejudices and divisions.
Through collaboration with NIDM, the conference aims at sensitising people towards natural disasters and the toll they take on human life. The panel experts will also help people in responding constructively to situations in times of emergency. The venue of the conference will be the university’s convention centre.
