After a month of lengthy investigations that involved questioning of about 300 suspects and a confession that turned out to be false, Shobhit Modi's family is now considering approaching the Delhi high court for justice.

Twenty-year-old Modi, a second-year IT engineering student at Faridabad's Manav Rachna University, was stabbed to death on May 5 at the gate of his residence in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj. He was on his way home from DLF Promenade Mall.

Accusing the police of buckling under “some kind of pressure”, the Modis alleged that some influential people might have bought the local criminal, who had admitted to his involvement in the murder on May 29.

“We … think that they (the police) are buckling under the pressure of the influential parents of some his friends, who are also suspects in the case,” said a family member on condition of anonymity.

The family also wrote to Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south), about the matter. Sharma, however, said the investigators visited the family four days ago and briefed them about the progress made.

“I have personally assured the parents about the fact that we, as a team, are working very hard to solve the case and addressed all their apprehensions. We will get to the bottom of this.”
