The father of IT student Shobhit Modi, who was stabbed to death near his Vasant Kunj house two months ago, has moved the Delhi high court on Monday, seeking a CBI probe into the murder.
In his petition, Suraj Modi alleged that even after 70 days, police were clueless and unable to crack the case. “Police is handling the case in an inefficient manner,” Suraj said.
Shobhit was fatally stabbed by some unknown assailants near his house at Vasant Kunj in South Delhi on May 5. Police have been probing the case without any breakthrough, the father said in the petition.
Despite being provided with requisite information, the investigators, have failed to establish the motive behind the killing of Shobhit, an IT student of Manav Rachna University at Faridabad.
The petition, which may come up for hearing during the week, has sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe to unravel the case.
During the probe, police interrogated the father of Shobhit’s alleged girlfriend since it was “claimed that he had disapproved of their relationship”.
They also questioned a 23-year-old woman in connection with the probe following the scrutiny of call details of the Shobhit’s mobile phone.
“For the past 70 days, the police have only talked, instead of investigating the case properly. This, despite us giving them all the names and answering all their queries to the best of our abilities. They left us with no choice after their shoddy investigation. We need a CBI inquiry,” the father said.
