In a shocking incident, three men tried to set a mobile shop owner on fire because they didn’t receive a confirmation message of a recharge of Rs 100.
According to police, on Saturday night three men came to Sushil Mohan Anand’s (35) shop to get a pre-paid recharge for their cell phone.
“Anand transferred talk time through his cell phone, but the assailants alleged that they did not receive the confirmation message. They started arguing with the victim over this,” said a senior police officer.
The three men — Goldy, Manish (who go with their first names) and an unidentified person — wanted a recharge worth Rs 100.
Police said they refused to pay the amount saying that they did not receive a confirmation message on their phone.
Police said after heated arguments, the three men left the shop but not before threatening Anand of dire consequences.
Anand later closed his shop around 11:00 p.m. and was on his way back home in the same area when the trio attacked him and started beating him. One of the accused poured kerosene on him and the other allegedly set him on fire, police said.
A resident of the area witnessed the incident and immediately called up the police. The three men fled from the spot after that.
Anand was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhayay Hospital and was later moved to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where he is undergoing treatment. He is said to have received over 60 per cent burns and his condition is said to be critical.
Anand’s uncle Sanjay said, “They got a recharge of Rs 100 and refused to pay the amount due to which the argument started. They were all in inebriated condition. I believe that they had planned the whole thing.”
The police claim to have nabbed Manish and another person in the case, but Goldy is still absconding.
A case of attempt to murder has been registered at Hari Nagar Police Station.
