Soon it will become difficult for criminals to use uniforms as weapons to commit crimes.

In a few days time, every vendor in the city selling army, paramilitary and Delhi Police uniforms and other surplus would have to maintain a record of their customers.

Police have decided to implement Section 144 on all the suppliers of such articles in the city to prevent its misuse by criminals.

This decision has been taken after a number of cases came to light where a person wearing fake uniform committed crime.

“We are planning to make it mandatory for shopkeepers selling uniform of police, paramilitary forces or the armed forces to keep a record of those buying such material,” said Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal.

“They will also have to verify their identity,” he said.

Police recovered a uniform on Sunday from the two persons who were arrested for the kidnapping of a schoolboy from Rohini.

They had also allegedly tried to kidnap a businessman by posing as a traffic policeman.
