HRD Minister Kapil Sibal on Wednesday appealed to the striking teachers of Delhi University to go back to work even as their agitation against the newly introduced semester system entered the third day.

"I appeal to the teachers to go back to teaching," he said, adding, the new Vice Chancellor can take up the issues with them. He indicated that the notification for appointment of the new VC would be out within the next one week.

Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) had warned that it would not cooperate with plans of holding exams in December, and threatened to intensify its stir if its demands were not met by October 29.

The association is against the newly introduced semester system in 13 science undergraduate courses, labelling the semester system illegal as according to them it was imposed without the sanction of the Executive Council and the Academic Council.
