Cricketer-turned-MP Navjot Singh Siddhu was the latest to join the list of disgruntled BJP leaders when he reportedly threatened to resign over the appointment of a person as chairperson of a Trust in his constituency Amritsar without his consent.
"A person was appointed as chairperson of the Amritsar Improvement Trust by a rival camp in the BJP without taking Siddhu's consent even though he is the MP from this constituency," a BJP MP told PTI informing about the internal wrangling of party, on condition of anonymity.
BJP sources said the appointment was made a fortnight ago and Siddhu had been miffed since then. Unconfirmed reports say Siddhu even threatened to quit his Lok Sabha seat if the person was not removed.
"An MP would like to appoint people close to him to such posts but he was not even consulted," said a party leader.
However, Balbir Punj, who is BJP in-charge of Punjab, told PTI he was not aware of any resignation threat from Siddhu.
Though BJP has ruled out any change in the appointment, Siddhu was reportedly placated by the party leadership with the promise that no future appointments in his constituency would be made without consulting him.
