Six robbers on two motorcycles allegedly abducted two friends at gunpoint and withdrew Rs 40,000 using an ATM card of one of the victims.
Police said Gaurav Sharma (26) and Vijender Kumar (25) were on their way to a relative's house in Mahipalpur in South Delhi around 9:30 p.m. on Friday.
They were on the Rajokri stretch of the Gurgaon expressway when the robbers surrounded them.
Kumar told the police that they abducted them at gunpoint, took them to a desolate area in Dwarka, forced them to divulge their ATM's pin number. He said they were also beaten up by the robbers.
“The six men were carrying weapons and made us sit on their bikes. One of them rode our motorcycle,” Kumar told the police.
He added that after riding for around half an hour, the robbers took them to a desolate place near Sector-12 in Dwarka.
“When we reached Kapashera border, we saw some policemen and tried to disbalance the motorcycle and tried to alert the police at the check post. We could not succeed and they took us to an under construction site in Dwarka. They asked us for the pin number of our ATM card. When we denied to divulge the pin number they beat us up and we had to give in,” said Kumar.
Two of the robbers then went to an Axis bank ATM in the area and withdrew money from their account, police said.
“Since there is a limit of Rs 25,000 that can be withdrawn in a day from an account, they waited till midnight to withdraw money again,” said Kumar.
“Around 3.30 a.m. the robbers returned our motorcycle and told us to leave. They took out the SIM card of our mobile phones and said we shouldn't stop anywhere or else they would kill us,” Kumar claimed.
On Saturday they lodged a complaint with the local police.
“We have received a complaint and have transferred it to Delhi,” said a senior police officer at Udyog Vihar Police Station in Gurgaon.
