After successfully introducing six-coach trains on Line 3/4, the Delhi Metro is all set to introduce six-coach trains on Line 2 — that connects Jehangirpuri with Gurgaon and is one of the busiest operational areas of the Delhi Metro.

The six-coach trains will be pressed into service after a week, following trials that started on Sunday evening.

"Once trials are over, we will start the service," said a spokesperson of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

The need of conducting trial runs was to ensure full safety of the rolling stock, signalling, electrical and other systems of these six coach trains, said the spokesperson.http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/HTEditImages/Images/07_02_11_metro8b.jpg

"After pressing two six-coach trains into service, we will add one every week. We will convert 54 trains into six-coach trains to ply on Line 2. Once this gets done, carrying capacity will be up by 50% as each of six coach trains can carry about 300 passengers," said Raj Kumar, director (operations), DMRC.

Delhi Metro is presently used by over 15 lakh passengers on any working day. On its six operational lines, more than 2,700 trips are made daily, covering over 65,000 km.

During trail runs on Line-2, the six-coach trains would stop at all stations and there would be change in stopping points at all stations.

However, all four-coach trains on this line will stop at the normal stopping points, without any change.

The DMRC introduced the first six-coach metro train on December 23 on Line 3/4 (Dwarka Sector 21 - Noida City Centre/Anand Vihar).

Presently, five six-coach trains are operational on this line, bringing huge relief to commuters, said DMRC.
