The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has finally put its foot down. It has told the Organising Committee (OC) that they will only provide security to the eight hotels designated for delegates and athletes.
The OC was supposed to make arrangements for 1,698 technical officials at the newly built Vasant Kunj flats but the entire work could not be completed on time.
Only 894 of the officials will be able to stay at the DDA flats that are ready. Last-minute alternative arrangements were being made for others on Monday.
The OC has decided to put the national technical officials (NTO)— the Indian contingent — at small hotels in Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gurgaon.
The international technical officials (ITO) are being put up at five star hotels, including Ramada and Ashok, in the heart of the city.
Arrangements have been made to accommodate 60 national technical officials at Mela Plaza in Ghaziabad,
30 km away from the RK Khanna Tennis stadium near Bhikaji Cama Place in South Delhi.
On the other hand the 69 international technical officials of tennis will be put up at Maurya Sheraton hotel in Saket.
“It has been decided that around 894 members of the Indian contingent, including the anti-doping squad, will be put up at the low income group (LIG) flats that have been builtby the DDA at Vasant Kunj.
The rest of the officials will be put up at YMCA hostel and hotels in Gurgaon and Ghaziabad,” said a senior police officer.
“When we told them that we would not be able to provide them security at whichever hotel they wished, they shifted the plan to the outskirts of the city,” the officer added.
The members of the shooting contingent are being put at Hotel Shyama in Gurgaon.
