A text message by a policeman landed two vehicle thieves in jail in south Delhi. The policeman had sent a text message to the 'Auto-Match Helpline' of Delhi Police to check whether the motorcycle, which the youths were riding on, was a stolen one or not.

"The reply confirmed that the vehicle was stolen and the duo were arrested. They were identified as Shakeel Ahmad (28) and Guddan (26)," said HGS Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).

The police said information regarding whether a vehicle is stolen can be confirmed from sending a message to Police helpline number 9811599901.

"All that a person has to do is type SV then type space and then the vehicle number. If an FIR for a stolen vehicle is registered then the information will be given,” said a senior police officer.
