Pawan Bansal (40) was looking forward to a quiet weekend — away from the heat and dust of his steel factory on Sunday.
But his reverie was shattered on Saturday night when two motorcycle-borne snatchers smashed his windowpanes and decamped with a bag containing Rs 2 lakh.
The incident took place around 10 p.m. at the busy traffic intersection point in Shalimar Bagh of northwest Delhi while the businessman was on his way back home from his factory in Ashok Vihar Industrial Area.
Bansal, who lives in Pitampura, scarcely had the time to react as the bag was on the rear seat, while he was driving his Santro.
“Bansal was waiting at for the light to turn green, when two motorcyclists approached his car. One of them broke open the windowpanes and took out the bag containing the cash,” said N.S. Bundela, DCP (northwest). He later called the police.
The attackers may have been following the businessman from his factory, the police said.
“We are also questioning the known criminals in the area,” said a senior police officer not authorised to speak to the media. “As the motorcyclists were wearing helmets, the businessman could not see them.”
