Software to ease Delhi travel woes

The software, called SMS-based fare prediction system, will give information about the distance between two places, auto fare, route and the combination of buses and Metro that will take you there fastest.
The software was exhibited on Thursday at the institute’s foundation laying ceremony of its under-construction permanent campus in Okhla Industrial Area. Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, was the chief guest at the event.
“We require users to SMS us the name of two locations and we'll be able to tell them everything about the route through an SMS,” said Lakshya Pandey, a first-year student at the college, who gave a demonstration of the software to Dikshit.
The software will not cater to students alone and can be used by everybody. However, the numbers to which the SMS has to be sent has not been declared so far.
“The software is very exciting. It helps cut down confusion and also provides information on connectivity between two most important modes of transports in Delhi — the Metro and the buses. It will also help guide tourists who would be coming to Delhi for the Commonwealth Games,” said Dikshit.
Dikshit also assured students that the permanent campus would be ready within 15 months. The campus is being built at a cost of Rs 80 crore and will include a boys hostel for 300 students and a girls hostel for 200 students.
The new campus promises to be energy-efficient and eco-friendly.
The building will use low-energy cooling systems, water recycling and solar water heaters and will also have its own sewage treatment plant.
