The much anticipated monsoon is likely to hit the Capital this weekend, ending days of misery for Delhiites, who braved yet another hot and humid day on Monday.

The maximum temperature touched 41.8 degree Celsius, six points above normal and down from Sunday’s 43.5 degree Celsius.

The minimum temperature was five notches above normal at 32.3 degree Celsius, up from 31.4 degree Celsius.

The humidity oscillated between 37 and 67%, adding to the misery of Delhiites.

The weatherman has predicted rain in some parts of the city on Tuesday.

At the same time, he said that it would not be monsoon rain. The temperature may be around 33 and 41 degree Celsius.

It has been an extended summer for Delhiites, as the south-west monsoon missed its date with the Capital.

“We now have a very definite sign of the monsoon progressing towards northern parts of the country. It is expected to move north-west wards and under the influence of this system, we expect monsoon to cover the remaining parts of central India in the next two days. By the end of this week, northern parts, including Delhi, are expected to be covered by the monsoon,” said SC Bhan, a senior Indian Meteorological Department official.

The normal onset date for south-west monsoon in the Capital is June 29. Last year, however, it reached Delhi ahead of schedule — on June 26.

Though it came three days earlier last year, the monsoon had a late arrival in 2010.
