“I need to take care of my 11-year-old school going son who lived with me in Chennai. There is no one with him as my husband is settled in Singapore”. This was one of the main grounds of Kanimozhi's bail plea before the Delhi high court on Tuesday.
Basing her bail plea mainly on humanitarian grounds, she has also cited the observations of CBI special judge that he wanted to show her consideration given her "extremely dignified conduct" in court where she appeared for two continuous weeks till her bail plea was dismissed. The court had made it clear that "magnitude of the crime and allegations by the CBI" stood in the way of any relief.
Justice Ajit Bharihoke who on Monday dismissed the bail plea of five corporate honchos arrested on similar grounds deferred Kanimozhi's bail plea hearing for May 30 awaiting CBI's reply.
Earlier in the day, Kanimozhi came face to face with her half-brother MK Stalin at the CBI court in Patiala House. He waited for 30 minutes for his sister to come. Stalin with a sullen face asked her in Tamil: "How are you doing?" to which she replied emotionally: "Im fine. Have to face everything if that is the destiny”.
Stalin sat between Kanimozhi and main accused and former telecom minister A Raja and enquired about their life in jail.
“How is father. He appeared to be very upset yesterday,” a concerned Kanimozhi asked Stalin, to which he replied: “He is doing fine.”
No bail for Balwa
Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa, an accused in 2G spectrum allocation scam, was on Tuesday refused bail by a Delhi court which said he has failed to "make out a case" for his release from jail in view of the apprehension that witnesses could be influenced.
Special CBI Judge OP Saini also dismissed the bail pleas of Balwa's cousin, Asif Balwa and Rajeev Aggarwal, accused of facilitating Rs 200 crore bribe to Kalaignar TV.
