Congress president Sonia Gandhi today appealed to social activist Anna Hazare to end his fast-unto-death and said his views on combating corruption will receive full attention of the government.

"I am pained by Anna Hazareji's fast unto death. The issues he has raised are of grave public concern. There can be no two views on the urgent necessity of combating graft and corruption in public life. I believe the law in these matters must be effective and must deliver desired results," Gandhi said in a statement.

She said she was sure that the views of Hazare will be fully considered by the government.

"I am sure that Anna Hazareji's views will receive the government's full attention as we move forward to fight this menace. I appeal to Anna ji to give up his fast," she said.

Hazare's fast for an effective and stringent Lokpal Bill continued for the third day on Thursday.
