Flight delayed at the Delhi airport? Go for that long-pending back massage or maybe even a manicure. Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport now boasts of spas, both at its domestic (1D) and international departure terminals.
If you are stressed after rushing to catch a flight or have hours to kill for a connecting flight, the spa offers foot reflexology, neck and back massages, facials, pedicures and manicures.
The private airport operator Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) had installed complimentary foot massagers for passengers in August and the spas were opened last week.
Passengers, however, would have to pay for the services at these spas run by O2 chain of spas. The service has been tailored for the needs of passengers. You can choose between massages with a time range from 30 to 90 minutes, depending on your convenience. Also, passengers get to keep their clothes on no matter which massage or beauty treatment they choose.
“The massages on offer are a perfect blend of Thai concepts with Indian elements,” said a DIAL spokesman. “It has opened only a week ago and the foot reflexology treatment is the most popular among the services offered at O2 Spa.”
“The foot reflexology treatment works on the concept of various reflex points on the feet that correlate with various glands and different parts of the body,” said Chin Myo, one of the trained masseurs at O2 Spa.
“When pressure is applied on these points of the foot, it results in relaxation and provides relief from the symptoms felt in the corresponding part of the body. In order to ease tension and stress, the reflex points of the feet are kneaded and massaged.”
Spread over an area of 400 square feet, the spa is located in the security hold area, where passengers wait for the boarding call after going through security checks.
“The spa is equipped with ergonomic massaging apparatus designed for ambulant massage treatments,” he said.
Apart from Delhi, the Mumbai and Hyderabad airports too have spa facilities.
