A 25-year-old call centre employee was arrested on Thursday for reportedly putting a pen camera in the women’s toilet, police said.
The accused, identified as Sanjay Kumar, works in the administrative wing of the Pitampura-based call centre.
Kumar is said to have told told the police that he placed the camera for “personal use.”
Kumar allegedly placed the pen spy camera in an air freshener box on April 12.
A company’s employee noticed something shiny in the box it when he went to use the toilet the same day and discovered the camera.
The matter was reported to the police only on Wednesday when the issue was not resolved among the employees, police said. Though the accused had claimed he put the camera for the first time on that day, the police were investigating if it was used earlier or not.
The police seized a 10-minute footage of the camera the accused stored in his laptop.
“We arrested him and are examining the footage recovered from him,” said NS Bundela, deputy commissioner of police (northwest).
Police said they were examining whether the accused had made a copy of the footage and stored it elsewhere.
“Till now, we do not know whether he was recording it to blackmail his colleagues. But we are still investigating and cannot rule out this probability,” said a senior police officer.
On Wednesday, the case was registered on the basis of a
complaint lodged by five employees of Homeland Survey Call Centre.
When the police recovered the camera from the office, it was found to be in a damaged condition and the accused had reportedly tried to destroy the evidence, police said.
He was also booked for disappearance of evidence.
“We are investigating whether he had connived with someone else to commit the crime,” said the officer.
